These paintings were inspired by many journeys to Italy and the richness of bright colours together with the decorative embellishments of Medieval art. At this time there was a blurring between 2 and 3 dimensional work. Sculptures were painted and frames were part of the image. This series of paintings also include the decorative use of gilding with gold leaf and the colour range that it was possible to make from natural resources in those days .
